Walt Disney Fun Facts 

  1. During World War II, Walt Disney created cartoons for the U.S government to help boost morale.
  2. Walt Disney was a railroad enthusiast who built model train sets to relax after work. His uncle was a steam locomotive engineer, and Disney sold snacks and newspapers on trains as a teenager. 
  3. In 1932, Disney produced Flowers and Trees, the first full-color Technicolor cartoon. Disney had exclusive rights to use the new process until the end of 1935.
  4. Walt Disney’s first animation studio was Laugh-O-Gram, where he told modernized fairy tales based on Aesop’s Fables. 
  5. Walt Disney was the original voice of Mickey Mouse, but he didn’t draw him.
  6. To sell the idea for Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs, Walt Disney performed it as a one-man show. 
  7. Walt Disney holds the record for the most Academy Awards won by an individual, with 22 wins and 59 nominations between 1932 and 1969.
  8. Walt Disney got the idea for Disneyland while watching his daughters ride a merry-go-round at Griffith Park. He was inspired to create a place where families could make magical memories.
  9. Walt Disney held the patent for Technicolor for 2 years, making him the only animator who could make color animated films at the time. 
  10. Walt Disney started his career in 1919 at the Kansas City Slide Company, where he worked on stop-action animation commercials. He later left with animator, Ub Iwerks, to start their own company, Laugh-O-Grams.
  11. Walt Disney was married to Lillian Bounds, a Disney ink artist, and they had 2 daughters, Diane and Sharon. 
  12. Rumors circulated after Walt Disney’s death that he was cryogenically frozen, but he was actually cremated and buried in a mausoleum. 
  13. Walt Disney built a half-mile railroad around his property in Holmby Hills, Los Angeles, and would dress up as a train engineer to give visitors rides.
